USDOT encourages public and private organizations actively involved in freight transportation to contribute existing and proposed strategies, tactics, and activities to the Framework for a National Freight Policy. Potential contributors are encouraged to read the About page and review the current Framework entries to see what types of actions and proposals are already included.
The Framework is built on projects, programs, and policies that are actively pursued by contributing organizations to advance any of the seven objectives on the National Framework, ranging from very specific activities to broad strategies and tactics. The Framework includes strategies, tactics, and activities that exist or that the contributing organization has formally adopted and is actively pursuing to make happen.
The information required for each strategy, tactic, and activity includes a brief description, status (completed, underway, planned, or proposed), and lead organization. Strategies should include at least one tactic, and tactics should include at least one activity. Optional information includes milestones, legislative citations if applicable, likely obstacles to be overcome, and any additional comments.
DOT staff will review contributions submitted to the Framework, and will format and format and edit the submissions to fit with other contributions. USDOT may choose not to accept contributions if the material is outside the scope of the Framework, involves proposals that have not been adopted or vetted by organizations with significant interests in freight transportation, or does not include enough information.
For further information or to submit proposed contributions to the Framework, contact Tony Furst or Ed Strocko in the FHWA Office of Freight Management and Operations.
